![]() ![]() When bringing this to management I was told that it was basically too bad because Lumen has a no raise policy in place. I often felt unappreciated and began to realize I was severely undercompensated when comparing to industry standards (over 30% less). I enjoyed the first year as I had so much more of a work-life balance but as I continued on things began to go south. If you're looking for a company to get a start into your career in telecommunications then keep looking because the folks here at Lumen are worse than when it was Century Link and they still cling to the old, traditional views of running a corporation and all they're really doing is sinking the already sinking ship faster. If you're looking for a company where you are set in your role and you require no additional training then this is the company for you. My manager did nothing to help me even asking for additional training and mentor ship. I don't think the trainer meant any ill will, but clearly the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing and other than the awful things you hear about this company in terms of their products and services it's clear there is a HUGE lack of leadership and guidance. My initial trainers told me my team would finish my training. My initial training had nothing to do with my role and once I actually got to my team other than asking for help here and there I was not given any other help. While the work/life balance flexibility is amazing and you are able to work from home I have issues with this company. Competitors I've worked for pay much better than Lumen, yet have less job security since Lumen is unionized. I've gone though a couple dozen management changes. The upside is that the pay seems to fall within the market average. ![]() Yet, you'll find that nearly any manager has much less experience than those they manage. You'll find most of your co-workers have worked 10+ years in their current job. Once you start in an occupational role, you cannot apply for any other internal jobs for 2 years. Management is more often hired from the outside than internal. From company vehicle to various expensive fiber testing equipment to general tools. Lumen seems to have a poorer direction than most competitors due to being a regulated utility and having funds secured by government regardless of consumer effectiveness.ġst day as a tech and techs are already responsible for around $100k in equipment. I've also worked for multiple competitors, and have a general feel of the market. From sales and service, to product sme, to internal resolution helpdesk, to premise technician. I've worked in numerous departments between Qwest, Centurylink and Lumen. ![]()
